I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I received my Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Chapman University. Before that, I earned a Bachelor’s degree in both Psychology and Art from Thomas Edison State College while serving in the Navy. I grew up in El Paso but moved around with the Navy to Florida, Connecticut, California, Hawaii, and to my last duty station in Washington. Living in such diverse places make me appreciate the differences and commonalities of cultures in our country that fill a spectrum of opinions, communication, and interpersonal interactions.
My background and interests are varied among creative arts, science and applied mechanics. I value the blending of art and science because for me it describes the integration of different facilities that we all have individually to form a bigger picture of reality or better pattern for fulfilled living. Art without science is chaos and science without art is cold rigidity. I could scientifically know what a person should do to change their mood or break bad habits in relationships but the artful way the message or instruction is sent is of equal value. Weaving them together increases the possibility lasting change.
I specialize in relationship issues, infidelity, depression, anxiety, military issues, trauma, substance use, sexual concerns, and life transitions. I work with adult individuals and couples. With individuals, I focus on their experience, freedom of choice and developing self-awareness that leads to personal responsibility and change. For couples, I work to revive or renew the friendship, trust, and love in the relationship.
