Hi! My name is Emily Rivera and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist - Associate (#206155) under the supervision of Dr. Becky Davenport, LMFT-S. I provide in person and Telehealth services across the state of TX and I’m excited to work with you! My ideal client includes someone who is curious about the therapeutic process, open-minded to the work we do together, and ready to make long-lasting change. I greatly enjoy working with young adults, families with school-aged children, and clients who have no therapy experience.
I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from the University of the Incarnate Word in December 2022, then completed my Master of Science degree in Psychology with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy from Our Lady of the Lake University in August 2025. I have enjoyed working in a variety of settings as a graduate student, including through OLLU’s Community Counseling Clinic, Driggers Elementary School for NISD students K-12, and the Student Counseling Center at Texas A&M University in San Antonio.
I have experience working with individual clients (ages 4+), families, couples, and groups. My background includes addressing a variety of issues that bring clients to therapy, such as stress and anxiety management, mindfulness and coping skills development, navigating phase-of-life problems, refining conflict-resolution and communication skills within the family, and more. I have experience in working with clients who identify as LGBTQIA+, Hispanic/Latinx, First Generation, and blended families.
I was born and raised here in San Antonio and recently married my high school sweetheart after 8 years together. Aside from being a therapist, I also take pride in being a sister, a daughter, a tia, a godmother, and a friend. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with loved ones, traveling to new places, trying new restaurants, being outdoors with my dog, and playing Animal Crossing on my Nintendo switch.
My therapeutic approach includes strengths-based, systemic principles, through the use of modalities such as Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and Collaborative Language Systems. I am passionate about providing person-centered, culturally responsive, collaborative and inclusive mental health care to all of my clients. I strongly believe that every person already possesses the skills to create fulfilling change within their lives; I am only here to walk alongside you in this journey together.
